Measure the length and width of the area at its widest points and allow extra for trimming and for any awkward shapes. Plan the layout so all rolls run in the same direction, since laying one piece the other way makes the join obvious in certain light.

Can I lay it myself?

On a hard surface such as concrete, decking or a balcony, yes. It is a matter of cleaning the surface, cutting to shape and fixing the edges.
